Banners on the big orange brick building give away its purpose...

Friday, August 26 was a banner day for the Clarence Brown Theatre in more ways than one! Of course, it was the day the 2006-2007 Season opened -- always a cause for celebration (especially after it's over!). But this year, a more literal meaning attaches -- nine giant banners now stream down from the rooftop announcing our season to those passing by the Theatre Plaza, the John Ward/Joe Johnson Pedestrian Mall, the Humanities Building, and even McClung Tower.

Incoming Department Head and Producing Artistic Director Cal MacLean pushed the project through, sensing the need for us to more firmly establish our identity on campus. Production Manager Joe Champelli and Stage Supervisor James Halter worked out the details of hanging the banners. Julie Summers worked her usual magic in designing the set -- a center banner for the season, flanked by one each for each our our eight shows.

The result? A lot of people looking up! Hopefully, that will result in things looking up for us as well. Here are a few snapshots from Friday morning: (Click on the images to make them bigger!)
