CBT Lab Makes the Big Time
Regular patrons will pay for real tickets to see shows in our most intimate space

Including the Studio Series as an add-on to the Clarence Brown Theatre season brings a different sort of life to the CBT Lab Theatre.  Although the Lab will always be its own unique and less formal space, its character will change as we bring paying customers into the place.

There are several improvements in the works for the Lab. First of all, the lighting system has been brought into the new millennium!  A new bank of dimmers, house light control, and a light control board matching those in the CBT and Carousel will help insure more consistent quality in this important aspect of the performance experience. We're taking a few steps to mark the aisles (going down steps).  We'll have some improved marking and post some ushers to assist patrons in navigating their way toward their seats.

Remember those oh-so-attractive rocks and blocks and stage weights used to hold open the outside doors of the Lab? Well, put them in your memory, because we won't need them anymore. New hardware loops have been attached to the bottom of the doors so the hooks can hold them open for performances.  It will soon look less like a construction site!

We'll set up a ticketing station in the spacious Lab lobby to avoid having to send ticket-seeking patrons up the John Ward/Joe Johnson Pedestrian Mall, through the cut in the bushes, into the CBT to the other Box Office and back again. Instead, we'll sell them at them at the point of performance. There are still a few problems -- the Lab restrooms leave a lot to be desired and don't come close to being handicapped-accessible. And, given our unquenched thirst for signage, we expect that some patrons may wander around looking for the place. If you seen them, tell them to look for the flashing lights!  Then turn right (or left), up the ramp, turn right, turn left...
