Violet is
the poignant story of a young girl's journey from her rural North Carolina home
to Tulsa, Oklahoma in hopes of a miraculous healing by a TV evangelist.
Her trip, by bus, takes her through Kingsport, Knoxville, Nashville, Memphis, and Ft. Smith. Along the way she meets several "colorful" characters whose actions form the basis of the play.
The ensemble consists of six men and five women, all singers. When not soloing they act as a chorus, moving the story forward and providing an intricate choral sound.
The play, written by Jeanine Tesori and Brian Crawley, is the first production in the Clarence Brown Theatre's Reading Series and will be presented Sunday evening September 24th at 7:00 p.m. in the Lab Theatre.
Guest director will be Bill Jenkins, head of the Theatre department at Ball State University.
